JAPANESE

In the Japanese program, students learn to read, write and speak Japanese through language, literature and film courses. With major and minor options available, many students combine their Japanese language studies with courses in business, fine arts, history, international affairs and religion.

Japan’s cultural and economic imprint upon the modern world is immense. From international bond and currency markets to the “soft power” of anime, manga, samurai and sushi, Japan continues to play a vital role in shaping the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. In GW’s program, students develop fluency in the Japanese language and learn about both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture; in the process, they also hone the ability to view themselves and the wider world from a new and broader perspective.
