Korean Language Module 1

In this module, you will hear from a professor at the George Washington University talking about the GW Korean Program. You will be able to hear her discussing what the students in the Korean language program have in common and the challenges that they may face.

 


Meet the Speaker

Miok Pak

Assistant Professor, Korean Linguistics and Language
Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures
The George Washington University 

Miok Pak is a professor at the George Washington University. She is a native Korean and received her BA and MA from Ewha Women's University in Korea. She came to the United States to continue her study in linguistics, and she received her PhD degree specializing in syntax from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. At GW, she teaches Korean language and Korean linguistics classes.

Some of the questions are meant to check your overall understanding of the talk, and some of the questions will ask you to relisten to a part of the video for a clearer understanding. There also will be some discussion questions where you can share your thoughts.


읽기 — Reading: Read a related handout (PDF) about the reports of students taking Korean classes in the U.S., and compare it to what you heard from the professor in the video. You can also read the story on the NewsPeppermint website.
