Language Assessment
Welcome to our 'Language for Professionals' assessment program. This is the SPEAKING evaluation request page.
Please note:
- This assessment is for people who want to know their level after completing the "Language for Professionals " self-learning module.
- We can offer this to a limited number of people, and we will manage the applicants
- This assessment will provide you with a certificate (along with a detailed explanation) for your level by CEFR certified evaluators.
- This certificate can NOT be used for the GWU language requirement.
- You can put it in your resume as an official certification.
- Currently we offer only the CHINESE, JAPANESE and KOREAN language.
- This is for Intermediate level and not for beginner.
Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure a smooth experience. Our process is designed to assess your proficiency in the chosen language and includes several key steps.
Step 1: Complete Prerequisite Modules
Before you can register for the test assessment, you must complete a series of prerequisite modules. These modules are designed to ensure that you have the necessary background, knowledge, and skills to proceed with the assessment.

columbian.gwu.edu/welcome- language-professionals - Complete the Modules: Work through each module at your own pace. Make sure to review all the material included.
Step 2: Language Proficiency Requirement
This assessment (included in step 3) is designed for individuals at an INTERMEDIATE (or Higher) level in the language. This is not for beginners.
You should have at least an intermediate understanding of the language, including grammar, vocabulary, and conversational abilities.
Step 3: Registration
1. To maintain the integrity and professionalism of our assessment process, you are required to register using a work or school email address - any personal email address will not be accepted.
2. Please note that the number of spots is limited, and new spots open up every two months. If your registration is received after all the current spots have been filled, you will not be eligible to take the assessment.
Step 4: Schedule a Phone Call with an Evaluator
As part of the assessment process, you will need to have a phone call with a CEFR assessment evaluator. This step is crucial to validate your proficiency.
- Schedule the Call: After registering, if you are accepted, you will receive a link to schedule your phone call. Choose a convenient time slot from the available options.
- Prepare for the Call: Make sure you are in a quiet environment where you can focus on the conversation.
- During the Call: The evaluator will ask you questions to assess your language proficiency and discuss the next steps in the assessment process. (20 minutes)
Step 5: After the Assessment
You will receive an email notification from the GW Language Center once your assessment results are ready, after which you will receive a CEFR certificate of completion.
***Note: This assessment does not fulfill the GW Language Requirement***
Time line:
- Application received, you will be notified within 1 week whether you are accepted or not.
- After receiving a notice of acceptance, you will be contacted by a coordinator to arrange the date/time of the test.
- You will receive the results within 7 days after taking the test. The Language Center will provide you with an official certificate and a detailed evaluation.
